In living up to its VISION and MISSION, Caritas MADDO focuses on the six Strategic Obejectives:
 

Quality and affordable preventive and curative health services

Mainstreaming HIV/AIDS in project activities, promoting Primary Health Care (PHC) working through community structures, Coordination and providing health support supervision including capacity building of Lower Level Units (LLUs).
To achieve the above, MADDO improves functioning of Diocesan Health Services through sustainability, better range and quality of services, improved governance, management and accountability structure and practices, coordination of Essential Drug Programme for health units and reduce HIV/AIDS prevalence.

 Easy access to sustainable safe water and sanitation services

 

Supporting communities to access safe water and practice hygienic and safe sanitary behavior.

Food security, increasing incomes through sustainable agribusiness

 Promoting biological and economical productivity of crops and livestock;

Improving diversified crops yields and sustainable environmental management;

Promoting producer and marketing organizational capacity including cooperatives and value addition for agricultural products in the market place.

To achieve the above, support is provided to organized farmers’ associations / groups to access agricultural inputs, improved farming practices, increased agricultural base incomes through
– Agricultural extension services Input supply
– Agricultural marketing
– Rural saving and credit
– Appropriate technology
– Natural resource management

Enterprise development
Establishment of diverse and viable enterprises by participating households. Caritas MADDO emphasizes setting up several income generating ventures at group and individual levels in order to create a good market for the good quantity and quality of the agricultural products.

Challenges within agriculture

Gender equity mainstreaming
This is mainstreamed in all MADDO development programmes with emphasis on the relationship between men and women especially in the area of sharing roles.

Human rights and good governance strategies
MADDO works to promote good governance and leadership that addresses gender concerns.
This is done through democracy monitoring from a gender perspective, promoting effective people’s engagement in multi-party politics, increasing women’s participation in politics, strategic leadership and decision making.

 Supporting the vulnerable groups

Formulating mechanisms of identifying  and assist the Vulnerable groups in the community; building the capacity of Widows as well as Orphans, and Other Vulnerable Children (OVC) to demand and protect their rights.

Support the OVC to access quality education, health and legal services.

Establishing strategies to respond and support people affected by disasters. The methods employed include;
– Provision of basic amenities
– Counseling and education
– Sensitize the community on Caritas spirit of assisting the needy in their  communities.

Masaka Social Centre

The center offers quality in and outside catering services and accommodation. Is a comfortable place for workshops, weddings, meetings, seminars and retreats.

Initiated as a means of sustaining development work in the Diocese, the Center is strategically located on the periphery of Masaka town on Bwala hill away from the busy town environment.

Formulating mechanisms of identifying  and assist the Vulnerable groups in the community; building the capacity of Widows as well as Orphans, and Other Vulnerable Children (OVC) to demand and protect their rights; Support the OVC to access quality education, health and legal services; establishing strategies to respond and support people affected by disasters.
